O little girl

O little girl
Take not for granted and cherish
That all-encompassing love
Your parents shower on you.
For as you grow
And live and love,
And laugh and cry,
And find your own way
In this great big world,
You’ll find that
After awhile
You don’t matter.

And when you find
The ones who really care,
Keep them close,
And be content.
For the more you seek,
The more you lose.
The more you love,
The more you’ll hurt.
The more you hope,
The more you’ll cry.

Leave the world behind,
And those who
Only pretend to care.
The ones who laugh with you
Will probably not be there
When all you have is sadness.
Few things in life last –
Friends leave,
Loves fade,
And lives end;
Death waits for no man.

Tell your dear mama
How much you love her
Before it’s too late.
For you won’t feel her gentle touch,
Or be scooped into her embrace,
Or hear her call your name
So dearly and tenderly
Anymore.
No amount of tears
And regret
Can call back the dead.

O little girl,
Cherish what you have,
Know what it is to be
So dearly loved,
And to matter so much,
While it lasts.
Remember,
Remember.
